A friend and longtime New York City (NYC) resident explained to me that you can quickly spot the tourists. One tell tale sign is how they crane their necks and gawk at the urban skyline. Some of the striking scenes I’ve discovered came to me while keeping my head down. Sure the streets are gritty and grimy. But when you let your feet take you here and there, trailing the city blocks as they unfold on their own, the cityscape rewards the curious, unboxing gemstones for the intrepid eye. Rough hewn but brimming with candor in a way only NYC can be, these scenes are meant to be walked up to and appreciated up close.
